Hyundai/Mongoose rider John Purse took on the biggest BMX track ever built this past weekend and made it look easy, as he transferred his way into the UCI Supercross of BMX Downhill race's main event. John who looked super smooth throughout practice, took each of the qualifying rounds of the Downhill event faster and faster, as he took on the Worlds top Pro riders. It was a long road to the main event, as Hurricane Isabel made its way through Central Pennsylvanian on Friday, delaying all race and practice action to late on Saturday night. As Sunday set it, the riders were finally able to get race ready, and take on the monstrous Woodward Downhill BMX race course. This was the same location as the 2001 and 2002 ESPN X-Games BMX Downhill events, but with some slight adjustments to the track, it was by far the best Downhill BMX race course ever built. John, with his never say quit attitude, was ready come race time on Sunday, and transferred into the main event, where after a heated battel down the first straitaway, would have to settle for 5th place for the day. John was happy with his result, and happy that he made it through the tough course all weekend without any crashes. You will be able to watch the entire event in the next coming weeks, as it will be aired on Fox Sports. Keep an eye out in your local listings for the event. John now heads off to the ABA West Coast Gold Cup finials in Nevada next weekend to try and gain some more points on his quest to take the 2003 ABA #1 Pro title. John currently sits 3rd overall, just a few points behind 2nd. Check back here often to keep up to date with John's BMX race results.  (9/21/03)
